Where the Vertex 04 works best

In Padel Magazine's 2024 test, Penso finds the standard Vertex 04 strongest in quick attacking exchanges, forceful volleys and smashes. He describes a stiff, responsive feel and precise contact when the ball meets the center of the face. The head-oriented balance feels less awkward to him than he expected.

The defensive cost

Penso calls the sweet spot relatively small and says defensive play takes more technique than with softer, fiberglass-faced rackets. Compared with a new Vertex 03 he had available, he finds the 04 slightly less powerful but easier to maneuver. A player moving up from a forgiving rental should pay particular attention to off-center blocks.

Standard versus Hybrid

The test distinguishes the black-and-red standard diamond from the silver-and-red Hybrid. Penso finds the Hybrid's lower balance easier to handle and more control-oriented, while the standard model gives more weight to attacking shots. Both are directed toward experienced players in his conclusion.

What the construction changes—and does not prove

The review describes an Xtend 12K carbon face over MultiEVA, plus the Curv:Aktiv frame design and Air Power opening. Penso links his improved handling impression to the new construction, but the on-court observation is more useful than a technology percentage: he finds the 04 easier to manoeuvre than the new Vertex 03 beside it, while slightly less powerful. That is an actual trade-off, not a generation-to-generation promise that every performance category improved.

Record the adjustable setup before comparing

The source describes Custom Weight plates on the frame and interchangeable weights beneath the handle, as well as a Hesacore grip beneath the supplied overgrip. Those choices can change the demo setup. Before comparing this diamond with Hybrid, establish which weights and grips are installed on each. Otherwise you risk attributing a setup difference to the model. Keep the trial focused on preparation and defensive contact first, then see whether the attacking benefit survives a realistic exchange.

Who should look elsewhere first

An experienced attacker who centres the ball reliably is the clearest match to Penso’s findings. If you need easy release when trapped deep, the review’s defensive reservation is more relevant than its praise for smashes. Hybrid is the first related alternative because its lower balance changes handling; a softer rental remains a useful baseline if you are still learning the game. A discounted 2024 standard is not interchangeable with Comfort, W or a later Vertex generation.

What to try on court

Shortlist the standard 2024 Vertex 04 for attack, then compare it with the Hybrid on defensive blocks and net reactions. The choice is more useful than assuming every Vertex 04 variant plays alike.
